We just finished working on our most recent short film, The Repast. If you haven't seen it yet, go check it out as it is some of our best work yet. We used the 48 Hour Film Project as a guideline to come up with the story. The genres we ended up with were Surrealist and Sci-Fi. We went with surrealism because it was one you don't see used very often and we felt like it would be an interesting challenge.
After watching a few videos on YouTube explaining what surrealism is, we started pitching our ideas. We landed on a story about a man visiting old friends for dinner. Mainly because it would be set in one location, which was a lesson we learned from our previous film, where we scoured the earth.
Something else that was exciting was as we had an actual crew of people to help with production. Kent Schmidt, who has worked on a few projects in the past stepped in to help with cinematography. We also had a newcomer team, Alex Cooley, who volunteered to hold a boom mic. This freed us up to work more with the actors on bringing this story to life.
Seeing the final outcome of this short has really inspired us to try and tackle larger projects. This film is not without its flaws, but watching our first short Smooth Talkers, and comparing it to the quality of The RePast, we're able to see how far we have come as filmmakers. There is still a long road ahead and we're excited to see where it takes us. We hope you come along for the ride.
